If everyone has come to the same conclusion, then surely that conclusion must be true. But if everyone has come a conclusion because everyone else has come to that conclusion, then surely it can not be the truth, can it?
The last thing I heard my friends talking about was a scandal that happened a couple of years ago involving someone in our peer group. While they were innocently chatting to their friend about an intriguing topic on their mind, they were also unwittingly gossiping. And this kind of gossip is extremely harmful, no matter what our intentions are. People who have never even met this person will have made their first impression of them based off some gossip they heard about them from several years ago, which is an unfair representation of who they are now.
The thing is, everyone makes mistakes and that's just a part of being human. But when we dwell on the mistakes or misfortunes of others by gossiping it disenables them from fully being able to move on and recover, and it's straight up just not a nice thing to do. While it's true we can't always control what we hear, we can certainly control what we share. So please next time you catch yourself about to dish the dirt on s…
AN INTERVIEW WITH HANNAH HOUGHTON by Humeera Imran How many times have you attended Athletics? This was the first year I went to the MAGS athletics day (with my friends), which I totally regret now because it was so much fun I wish we had gone every year! However, the 3000m is run as a separate event after-school and this is my third year doing it. What did you think of Athletics this year? I was very impressed! There are way more people participating, both in the 3000m and Athletics Day, than there have been in previous years and everyone seemed to enjoy the event no matter their skill level. I did shot put and discus as well as runs on Athletics Day which I have zero experience in but the great thing about Athletics Day is it is just filled with students giving it a try without judging themselves or others. What was the best part about Athletics? For me the best part is the 3000, because I'm more of a long distance runner - I get wasted in the short stuff! I really enjoy athletics bec…
On the 8th of march, myself, Jessika and Grace, went behind the scenes and met with one of our new deputy principals Mr Murdoch to learn a bit about him. We asked him a few questions and were surprised about some of the answers, Enjoy.
Mr Murdoch speaks highly of the important quality of leadership, he himself loves being a leader. When asked what he likes most about being a leader he says he loves the moments of connection he gets to experience through this. He talks of the moments you are talking with someone and you realise that being been on journey with them, you have shared knowledge and together you have really connected over an incredible experience.
When we asked mr Murdoch about what he can bring to the school, he told us that he believes that he can bring lots of enthusiasm to our school as it is one of his biggest values. He also hopes that he can help develop our school traditions in any way as he thinks that MAGS is already such a great place.
